Copilot Chat Updates & New Agents
New Agentic AI Agents for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Microsoft is introducing new dedicated, agent‑powered capabilities in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These agents combine the context of each productivity app with Copilot’s capabilities to better plan, reason, and carry out multi‑step work. The result is more effective refinement of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using native formatting, formulas, and layouts.
These enhancements allow Copilot to act more like an active partner for day‑to‑day productivity, rather than a general‑purpose tool.
Upcoming Changes for Copilot Chat
With the introduction of these dedicated agents, the Copilot Chat experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will shift to the agent experience in . You will now be able to invoke these agents during Copilot Chat conversations by using @word, @excel, or @powerpoint, and they will appear in your agents list.
As part of this update, the older Copilot Chat experience will no longer appear inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for those using Copilot Chat (Basic) after April 15, 2026. If you have a Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium license, your integrated in‑app experience remains unchanged.
