Update: Canvas Security Incident (May 9, 2026)

Last week, Instructure, the company behind Canvas Cloud, advised institutions of a systems breach. This incident has been widely reported in major national and international news and impacts a number of institutions across the world, with names, email addresses, student ID numbers and messages among Canvas users reported to have been impacted.

As a precautionary measure, and with the safety of our community and protection of institutional and personal data and intellectual property in mind, effective immediately, 911³Ô¹Ï is restricting access to Canvas Cloud for all academic, non-academic and continuing education courses.

INFORMATION SECURITY ESSENTIALS COURSE

Information Security Services has launched a new Information Security Essentials Course for Cybersecurity Awareness Month (October 2023) to equip members of the 911³Ô¹Ï community with the right tools they need to reduce the risk of fraud, scams or breaches.

All 911³Ô¹Ï faculty and staff are required to complete the course, which supports the new policies under GP 24: Acceptable Use and Security of Digital Information and Electronic Systems.

By now, we’ve all experienced phishing attempts. Have you ever seen an email offering you a job or opportunity or the promise of a reward if you if you just ‘click here’? Many can be so realistic that it’s easy to mistake it for a legitimate message. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
