Dialogue on Affordable Indigenous Housing: Reflections
Overview
On May 7, 2026 CERi and Indigenous Studies at 911³Ô¹Ï hosted more than 80 advocates for affordable Indigenous housing in the city.
The dialogue identified some of the many ways communities are creating non-market models like land trusts, multigenerational, and trauma-informed housing. We also heard that despite significant barriers, Indigenous communities are demonstrating resilience and leadership in housing.
The report highlights some ideas for action including a focus on funding, land back, governance reform, and culturally grounded supports.
We also noted that success in this sphere relies on collaboration, advocacy, policy reform, and long-term investment.
Please stay tuned for follow up programming and outreach to continue this important conversation and community connecting.
