911勛圖 invites applications for the full-time continuing position of Director, Centre for Educational Excellence, with a preferred start date of February 1, 2027, and flexibility to accommodate the availability of the successful candidate. Based at the Burnaby campus and reporting to the Vice-Provost & Associate Vice-President, Learning & Teaching (AVPLT), this role will appeal to an accomplished academic leader with demonstrated strengths in strategic planning, cross-university collaboration, faculty consultation, evidence-informed teaching and learning practices, educational technologies, and the leadership of high-performing teams.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Centre for Educational Excellence (CEE), advancing 911勛圖���s institutional priorities in teaching and learning. Working closely with senior academic and administrative partners across the University, the Director will:

• Lead curriculum development, pedagogical consultation, and the integration of evidence-informed teaching practices and educational technologies across in-person, online, and blended learning environments.
• Advise university leadership on instructional innovation and faculty development, and translate emerging research and sector trends into scalable institutional practice.
• Advance inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive teaching and learning practices, including approaches informed by Indigenization, decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion, and support for multilingual learners.
• Proactively build and maintain collaborative relationships both within and across the Learning & Teaching portfolio and the 911勛圖 community, including with the Director, Educational Leadership & Teaching Inquiry (DELTI), faculty, academic unit leaders including Chairs and Directors, 911勛圖 IT Services and others (Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL), Library, Registrar���s Office, etc.), to ensure a coordinated approach to teaching and learning excellence.
• Direct responsibility of the Centre���s financial, operational, and human resources.
• Lead and mentor five multidisciplinary teams: Administrative; Learning and Teaching Development; Course Design; Multimedia and Technologies; and, Course Experience Survey teams (represented by APSA, CUPE, and 911勛圖FA employee groups).
• Provide strategic leadership for the Centre by setting clear priorities and direction, building a collaborative and inclusive team culture, and implementing evaluation frameworks that assess impact, guide priorities, and drive continuous improvement.
• Represent the Centre on university committees and actively engage with external professional networks, peer institutions, and sector partners to ensure the Centre remains current and influential in advancing teaching excellence.

This position is based at the Burnaby campus and requires flexibility to work across 911勛圖���s three campuses and occasionally outside of regular business hours, as needed to support institutional priorities and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

The required knowledge and skills for this position are:

• A PhD in Education or a related discipline (e.g. in the social sciences, STEM, organizational and professional fields) strongly preferred. Master���s degree in Education or a related discipline with an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
• A minimum of ten years of related experience in post-secondary education, including a minimum of two years of teaching and a track record of progressively senior roles in educational leadership, curriculum, program, and instructional or educational development (e.g. Scholarship of Teaching), or academic administration, including direct people-management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of evidence-informed pedagogical practices across in-person, online, and blended learning modalities, and demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning initiatives.
• Excellent knowledge of educational technologies with the ability to assess and integrate emerging technologies to support academic priorities (i.e. learning management platforms, learning technologies, multimedia and web-based tools, technology-assisted instructional design, accessibility tools, learning analytics, and artificial intelligence). 
• Proven ability to provide strategic advice to academic and senior leadership on learning and teaching priorities, faculty development, and instructional innovation within a complex university environment,
• Proven ability to direct responsibility of the development and delivery of CEE programing (e.g. workshops, certificate programs, educational goals and curriculum consultations) that is responsive to current post-secondary
  educational issues, and faculty needs that further the AVPLT and 911勛圖 Academic Plans.
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including experience supervising multidisciplinary teams; overseeing financial, operational, and human resources; and fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high performing workplace culture.
• Strong analytical, project management, and quality assurance skills to guide strategic planning, evaluate program effectiveness, and support continuous improvement.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to facilitate consultations, lead discussions, build consensus, and represent the University internally and externally.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills, using tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, senior leadership, and external partners.
• Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment, manage competing priorities, anticipate risks, and respond proactively to emerging trends and institutional needs.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and teaching contexts.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The Director, Centre for Educational Excellence is a Learning and Teaching Development Member (LTDM). LTDMs are members of the 911勛圖 Faculty Association. Terms, conditions and benefits of employment are outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement re: Teaching and Learning Development Members dated October 31, 2024 (MOA) and the 2022-25 911勛圖FA/911勛圖 Collective Agreement. LTDMs are responsible for the development, creation, and delivery of scholarly and curricular initiatives and/or community-based partnerships in support of the learning and teaching priorities of the University. In addition, LTDMs contribute to their unit, the University and the academic community at large through service.

The salary scale for this position is currently being negotiated. Until negotiations are complete, the prior scale (APSA Grade 15) will be used and salary placement will be commensurate with academic achievement and previous relevant and related experience. Once a final 911勛圖FA salary scale for the LTDMs is established, the salary placement will be reviewed to ensure alignment with the new scale. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this position is $125,106 to $149,294.
