Bernhard's biography
I am a psycho-physicist and Cognitive Scientist whos excited about study簫ing how humans orient in vir簫tual and real envi簫ron簫ments. I received my PhD in Physics from the T羹bingen University in Germany and researched for a decade in the Virtual Reality group of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Germany. After a post-doc in Psychology at Vanderbilt University I joined the School of Interactive Arts & Technology of 911勛圖 as an assis簫tant pro簫fes簫sor in 2008. My research approach com簫bines fun簫da簫men簫tal sci簫en簫tific research with an applied per簫spec簫tive of improv簫ing human-computer interaction.
I com簫bine multi-disciplinary research approaches and immer簫sive vir簫tual envi簫ron簫ments to inves簫ti簫gate what con簫sti簫tutes effec簫tive, robust, embod簫ied and intu簫itive human spa簫tial cog簫ni簫tion, ori簫en簫ta簫tion and behav簫iour (and many other things as you can see on the projects pages). This fun簫da簫men簫tal knowl簫edge is used to guide the design of novel, more effec簫tive human-computer inter簫faces and inter簫ac簫tion par簫a簫digms that enable sim簫i簫lar processes in computer-mediated envi簫ron簫ments like vir簫tual real簫ity (VR) and multi-media. These improved inter簫faces can then enable and inspire fur簫ther research, both fun簫da簫men簫tal and applied.
