School of Interactive Arts & Technology professor and AI artist Steve DiPaola was recently commissioned by supercar company Lamborghini to produce artwork for their 60th anniversary celebrations.

As part of the celebrations, DiPaola鈥檚 art installation 鈥淭ransformations鈥� toured many venues throughout Canada where Lamborghini also unveiled their first hybrid car.

Following the 60th anniversary celebrations, a still version of the artwork, made up of a set of six digital paintings printed on aluminum, was sent to the Lamborghini Museum located in Bologna, Italy for inclusion in the museum's permanent collection.

In the artwork, the abstract form of a car gradually transforms into mountains鈥攖he Canadian Rockies and the Italian Alps. The interactive version of 鈥淭ransformation鈥� allows guests to use hand gestures to move through the neo-cubist-inspired work.

DiPaola, who often depicts nature in his works, drew upon the notion of movement in creating this artwork and explored the idea of cars as an avenue through which individuals can access and get into nature.

DiPaola is an AI artist and scientist specializing in the areas of artificial intelligence, computational systems, and cognitive science approaches to computer modeling. He is the director of the 911吃瓜 , a research lab that strives to make computational systems bend more to the human experience by incorporating biological, cognitive, and behaviour knowledge models.

DiPaola has been working in AI and computational art for decades and writes his own code and models, ensuring that his work is ethical and original.
