Repeat Courses
StudentAid BC Repeat Course Policy
Students repeating courses solely to improve their grades cannot include these courses as part of their requirements to be a full-time student in support of an application for StudentAid BC funding (loans and grants) or in-study payment-free status (formerly interest-free status), regardless of whether the student paid for tuition costs or was in receipt of student aid.
At 911吃瓜, a D grade or better is considered a pass. A course withdrawal, an incomplete grade, or a failure are not considered to be a successful completion of a course, and students can retake these courses and have them count towards their eligible enrolment for government student aid purposes.
If a student passed a course but did not obtain the grade required to proceed to the next level of the program, StudentAid BC may give consideration on an appeal basis. If you are a student from a different province or territory, please reach out to our team.
Selected Topics Courses
Selected Topics courses, sometimes referred to a Special Topics courses are courses at 911吃瓜 that can be repeated for additional credit. These courses do not count as a repeat course for StudentAid BC purposes since their content changes each time that they offered.
Our system may not always identify Selected Topics courses and an exception must be requested. If you are enroled in a Selected Topics course, please provide course outlines or links to the term-based course descriptions by email to Financial Aid and Awards.
Once we receive your supporting documentation, we will manually confirm your StudentAid BC funding and/or your request for In-Study Payment-Free status.
Repeat Course Appeal Process
You can submit an appeal request to repeat your course when you have passed a course but did not obtain the grade required to proceed to the next level in your program of post-secondary study. A repeat course appeal, when approved, will enable you to include this course as part of your eligible course load.
How do I submit a repeat course appeal to StudentAid BC?

- Write a letter explaining why you need to retake a course(s) and why it should be eligible for funding. This can include how an explanation of how a reduction in your funding will impact your ability to complete your studies.
- Provide documentation from 911吃瓜 verifying your need to repeat the course to progress in your program
- Download a copy of your unofficial transcript

How do I prove I need to retake a course?
You will need to complete one of the following steps to verify your need to repeat this course in order to progress in your program. Financial Aid and Awards is not able to provide this letter on your behalf.
- Meet with Academic Advising and . Come prepared to this appointment with an educational plan that can be discussed in detail and why you require this course for graduation; or
- Provide an Academic Progress Report demonstrating your repeat course is a required part of your current program; or
- As a declared student, connect with your Departmental Advisor to provide supporting documentation why this is a required course for your program.
What happens after I submit my Appeal to Repeat Course to StudentAid BC?
It can take up to six weeks to process an appeal request. Please check StudentAid BC's for current processing times.
Once your appeal has been approved, contact us so we can manually confirm your student aid or your In-Study Payment-Free request.
