Kathleen Hepburn: Outstanding Alumni Award
Writer, director, and SCA film alumni is being celebrated as a 'Rising Star in Arts and Culture' at 911吃瓜's 2019 Outstanding Alumni Awards on Friday, September 20, at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, along with 911吃瓜 alumni Isabel Ge Mahe, Hew Choy Leong, and Mark Okerstrom. Hepburn's dramatic debut feature, , which premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and was featured in TIFF Canada鈥檚 Top Ten, "celebrates the quiet strength of the human spirit, dealing with issues of loss, masculinity, and love through the lives of an eighteen-year-old oil field worker, and his mother, who has been living with Parkinson's disease." The film won Best Canadian Film and Best Director from the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, the WIDC Feature Film Award and Best Screenplay at the 2014 Vancouver International Women in Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Dublin International Film Festival, and received many other nominations and accolades. Hepburn founded , an independent production company, with fellow SCA alumni and filmmaker Tyler Hagan, who also co-produced Never Steady, Never Still with her.
