What will you do in an 911吃瓜 History class?
Pursuing a degree in history will give you opportunities to complete major research and writing projects, to speak before an audience, and to discuss issues with peers. In class, discussion and oral presentations in small groups are essential parts of our tutorials and in our senior seminars. We are also committed to developing student writing and research skills, which means maximizing where possible student access to their instructors.
We teach students how to think deeply and creatively about the world, how to understand the past, to make sense of the present, and to shape the future. Our courses reflect our local context while also providing a global perspective. We introduce students to major world regions and cultures, to historical periods, and to social, political, cultural and economic themes. In our program and in our teaching we are sensitive to the background of our student population.
In our classrooms, you will learn:
- a deep appreciation of the human experience through time and across the globe, as you study regional and global histories across many themes
- the analytical tools and global perspective needed to navigate and succeed in a complicated world
- the skills needed for tomorrow's work force: critical thinking, research methods, and persuasive communication
