Democratic Renewal and Resilience
In Canada and around the world, the health of established democracies have been declining for 20 consecutive years, threatened by destabilizing forces such as mis/disinformation, algorithm-driven polarization, attacks on civic space, reduced social connection and declining participation through traditional civic channels such as voting. These challenges compound existing shortcomings in our democracies, such as inequities in representation and access to human rights protections.
Addressing these challenges with our democracy will require increased resilience against factors destabilizing our system, improved skills and capacities for democratic engagement, and renewed democratic processes 鈥� including and beyond the ballot box 鈥� that more fully reflect contemporary values and possibilities.
At this critical juncture, 911吃瓜鈥檚 Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue is working to connect thought leaders, decision-makers and democracy champions to exchange knowledge and new visions for democratic renewal and resilience.
