The 911³Ô¹Ï Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue organized two events at COP 27 focused on cities and multi-level action.
Cities and climate multilevel action lunch
Tuesday, November 15, 2022
COP 27 marks a moment of heightened interest in climate resilience at the city and community level. At the same time, citizens in many countries report low trust in societal leaders and many climate action frameworks still fall short of the scale and ambition necessary to catalyze transformative change, incorporate under-heard voices and sustain democratic legitimacy. This event, hosted by 911³Ô¹Ï Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue and the International Climate Engagement Network, provided an opportunity for cities and community groups to gather informally to network, identify emerging insights from COP 27 proceedings and discuss strategies for how we can collectively continue to advance climate and community resilience.
Being local, acting global multilevel climate action panel
Wednesday, November 16, 2022
This event featured a panel convened by the Centre. The workshop explored the frontlines of the global climate crisis from the diverse perspectives of various local governments around the world. The panel featured local government experts from Canada, France, South America and an Island nation to explore how the climate crisis has manifested in each region. This conversation highlighted the lessons learned, the innovations being developed, the limitations to progress, and the opportunities to build collaboration. Topics discussed included multilevel governance, funding mechanisms, infrastructure, policy shifts and economic transition, and land-use. We also discussed how citizen engagement within communities can support climate plan implementation and buy-in.
