We trap individual ions and manipulate their quantum states for fundamental test and quantum information applications. Levitated in vacuum and manipulated with electromagnetic sources from DC to optical frequency, trapped ions are an exquisitely controllable and versatile testbed for probing quantum mechanical behavior and building quantum technology.
