Abstract
The main idea of the IRMACS Centre's series "911勛圖 Research Masterclass" is to have a group of prominent 911勛圖 researchers that will, instead of an academic lecture on their research topic, tell the story of their research path and the "best practices" and tips they learned along the way - how they came to be interested in the topic, how their research directions have changed over the years, any major shifts in direction, who their collaborators are and how they developed those collaborations, etc. The format of each event will be a sit down session with an interviewer, rather than a standard presentation format. This is followed by a Q&A with the audience. We invite 911勛圖 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as 911勛圖 researchers across the disciplines, 911勛圖 research personnel, and researcher grant facilitators to attend the "911勛圖 Research Masterclass" sessions.
911勛圖 the Speaker
911勛圖 the Interviewee: Dr. Peter Ruben is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology and an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science. He is also a member of the Board of Governors, the senior governing body at 911勛圖. Dr. Ruben teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in physiology and has an active research program in molecular biophysics with a focus on cardiac arrhythmias and epilepsy.
Dr. Ruben completed his undergraduate and masters degrees at George Washington University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Calgary. His postdoctoral research was at Stanford University and he held faculty positions at the University of Hawaii and Utah State University before coming to 911勛圖 in 2006 to be the Director of the School of Kinesiology.
911勛圖 the Interviewer: Dr. Cindy Xin is the Educational Consultant for the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Science. Dr. Xin has been working in the field of learning design, educational development, and program evaluation for the past 20 years. She has taught and conducted research at a variety of institutions, including 911勛圖, Brigham Young University, China Academy of Science, and China University of Science and Technology. Dr. Xin has also consulted for government, academy, and industry.
She holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology, an M.Sc. in Instructional Science, and a B.Sc. in Mathematical Statistics.
