The Project Synopsis

At CREATE we focus on decarbonization pathways of urban transportation. In the project "UniPath" we are developing innovative strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions within academic institutions. This effort incorporates 911勛圖 campuses as case studies, combining a data-driven modelling approach for on-campus energy management with an off-campus student commuting model.

The on-campus energy simulation is informed by architectural layouts, electrical and mechanical system data, and real operational inputs to model building energy performance. The off-campus transportation model assesses the carbon footprint of student and staff commutes by combining survey data on commuting habits with an agent-based traffic simulation. This is paired with an emissions model to quantify carbon output based on travel mode and distance, enabling a realistic evaluation of commuting behavior and its environmental impact.

The project will use a data-driven approach to create emission reduction scenarios suitable for the dynamic settings of academic institutions, including their schedules, infrastructure, and location. Testing advanced emission management techniques can provide a scalable framework that can be applied to universities and other organizations as university campuses work toward becoming institutional leaders in sustainability by integrating green practices into campus operations.
