911³Ô¹Ï 911³Ô¹Ï's chancellor

Dr. Elio Luongo, LL.D. (hon.)

Elio Luongo was appointed 911³Ô¹Ï's 13th chancellor in June 2026. A distinguished alumnus, business leader and community builder, he was selected for his visionary leadership, deep commitment to people and education, and longstanding belief in the power of opportunity to transform lives. Having experienced firsthand the impact education had on his own life and career, Luongo remains committed to creating opportunities for future generations of leaders and to advancing the vital role universities play in shaping a more innovative, inclusive and forward-looking society.

Elio Luongo is a corporate director and the former CEO and Senior Partner of KPMG in Canada, where he built a distinguished 37-year career. Serving two consecutive terms as CEO from 2016 to 2024, he led a national firm of more than 1,000 partners and 10,000+ employees across 40 locations—more than doubling KPMG Canada's size during his tenure. Under his leadership, the firm advanced its technology, innovation and data capabilities while championing inclusive leadership, with women holding more than half of executive team roles and the introduction of corporate Canada's first chief mental health officer role. Central to this success was Luongo's belief that organizations achieve their greatest potential when people are empowered to achieve theirs. By creating opportunities for individuals to grow and by building teams that leveraged the diverse strengths and talents of their members, he fostered a culture that contributed significantly to KPMG Canada's growth, innovation and long-term success. A strong advocate for developing future talent, he helped create career opportunities for thousands of students and graduates, providing many with their first professional experience and a foundation for successful careers in business, public service and entrepreneurship.

Beyond his firm-level leadership, Luongo held significant global roles at KPMG International, including membership on the Global Board and Global Council, and the Global Quality, Risk & Reputation Management Committee. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as Canadian Managing Partner, Tax (2011–2016) and Regional Managing Partner for British Columbia (2007–2011), among other senior leadership roles.

Luongo currently serves as a director of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), TD Bank Group and Tolko Industries. He is Chair and Co-Founder of the Canadian Centre for Audit Quality and a board member of Unity Health Toronto.

A committed community leader, Luongo has served as Chair of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, a provincial appointee to 911³Ô¹Ï's Board of Governors and a federal appointee to the Competition Tribunal of Canada. He also played a key role in establishing the KPMG-911³Ô¹Ï Digital Academy, a pioneering collaboration in data analytics and technology education.

Elio holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from 911³Ô¹Ï, a Corporate Director Certificate from Harvard Business School and the FCPA, FCA designation. His recognition includes the 2025 CPABC Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2025 King Charles III Coronation Medal and 911³Ô¹Ï's 2024 Outstanding Alumni Award for Professional Achievement.
