Chair's report - June Board meeting
This report contains general updates and a summary of the topics discussed at open session of the June 25 911吃瓜 Board of Governors meeting. Items discussed at this meeting represent matters of importance at the highest level of the institution, and these reports will help provide context and clarity around the progression of major projects and decisions.

Our June meeting began by welcoming new members to the 911吃瓜 Board of Governors. Aidan Gough, undergraduate student member, Evan Accettola, graduate student member and Naz Babaeipanah, staff member, were elected to the board by the 911吃瓜 community and joined us for the first time at the June meeting, as did Elio Luongo, 911吃瓜鈥檚 new chancellor.
I also reflected on events at the university since the last board meeting, including our June convocation ceremonies, celebrating both National Indigenous Peoples鈥� Month and Pride Month and the Stephen family鈥檚 transformative $40M gift to the newly named Stephens Family School of Medicine.
Following our June board meeting, 911吃瓜 President Joy Johnson announced publicly that she will be stepping down from her role, effective December 31, 2026. As chair of the Board of Governors, I will be chairing the Presidential Search Committee as mandated by Policy B10.06. In a recent communication to the 911吃瓜 community, I emphasized that we are committed a fair and transparent search process and a robust consultation period as outlined by policy. Updates will be shared regularly by email and on the Board of Governors website, and I encourage all community members to participate in this important decision for the university as opportunities arise.
The next board meeting will take place on September 28, 2026 and the schedule of upcoming meetings can be found on our website. I highly encourage community members to get involved and attend the open session in person or via Zoom by completing a . Registration opens four weeks before each meeting date and closes 48 hours before the meeting for in-person attendance and 24 hours for online attendance. I also want to highlight that all meeting agendas and materials for our open board sessions are shared publicly, allowing community members to stay informed about our discussions.
