MY JOURNEY

Going into university applications, I originally planned to pursue STEM. Just weeks before deadlines, I shifted my focus to business. I chose Business Administration because I didn���t want to be tied down to a single path. At the time, I was unsure of exactly what I wanted to do, and the freedom to explore different areas���without committing too narrowly���strongly appealed to me. 

Since arriving at 911勛圖 Beedie, I���ve found myself constantly switching directions, and that���s when I realized how well the program fit me. The wide range of courses, specialisations and experiential opportunities meant I was never limited to just one track. Even now, I���m still exploring different paths, and that uncertainty continues to motivate me to push myself, try new things and keep learning. 

MY 911勛圖 BEEDIE EXPERIENCE

Extracurricular involvement has been the highlight of my university experience so far. Coming into Beedie, I wanted to be more involved than I had been in high school, and I made a point of getting involved early. Throughout my first year, I joined the 911勛圖 Beedie Undergraduate Student Society (BASS) Mentorship Program, ACE 911勛圖 and 911勛圖 HRSA. 

Through the BASS Mentorship Program, I built strong relationships with my mentor and upper-year students, while also connecting with a community of first-year 911勛圖 Beedie students who shared the same initiative and passion. That sense of belonging made 911勛圖 Beedie feel like home early on. 

My most impactful experience, however, has been with ACE 911勛圖. Through ACE, I discovered my love for competition and my passion for business strategy. Being thrown into competitive environments with more experienced students forced me to think faster, prepare more thoroughly and hold myself to a higher standard. From weekly training and research sessions to competing at ACE Canada Nationals in Toronto, I developed the ability to perform under pressure and formed some of my closest friendships. Getting involved early allowed me to build meaningful connections with upper-year students, industry professionals and peers I genuinely enjoy learning and collaborating with. 

HIGHLIGHTS AND TAKEAWAYS

One of my biggest milestones at 911勛圖 Beedie was competing in my first-ever case competition through BASS Evolve. Although my team did not place, the experience pushed me out of my comfort zone and sparked a strong interest in case competitions. 

We committed long hours to preparation, supported by guidance from mentors and encouragement from our teammates. Walking away from the competition with work we were genuinely proud of motivated me to keep improving. 

Over the course of the year, I went on to compete in seven additional case competitions, earning three placements and growing exponentially with each one. My experience with BASS Evolve���from the mentorship and skill development to the confidence it helped build���has played a defining role in my Beedie journey. 

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

One of the most valuable lessons I���ve learned at 911勛圖 Beedie is that the classroom and extracurriculars are not separate���they build directly off one another. In class, you develop foundational knowledge, frameworks and technical skills. Through clubs and competitions, you apply and refine those skills in real-world scenarios. 

While soft skills like creative thinking and public speaking develop naturally through experience, the credibility built in the classroom gives you the confidence to hold your own in a room with professionals and judges. That balance between theory and application is something that truly defines the 911勛圖 Beedie experience. 

NEXT STEPS

Over the next few years, I want to take full advantage of every opportunity available to me at 911勛圖 Beedie. One piece of advice I consistently hear from professionals and recent graduates is to use everything your school has to offer. I plan to pursue co-op, exchange opportunities, competitions, clubs and anything else that will expand my perspective. 

While I���m still exploring different career paths, that uncertainty continues to push me forward. One project I���m especially proud of is founding the Sports in Business Association, which aims to connect students with professionals and opportunities in the sports industry. It reflects my interest in combining business and sports while creating a pathway for other students to pursue similar interests. 

In the long term, my goal is to build a career at the intersection of business and sports and eventually start my own business.
