Departmental Scholarships & Awards
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Students must meet the Terms of Reference noted on each scholarship and award, and, unless otherwise stated, all students must meet the following criteria:
SCHOLARSHIPS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.
- Have completed at least 12 units of standard graded courses at 911³Ô¹Ï.
- A student holding an 911³Ô¹Ï Entrance Scholarship is not eligible for any other University administered scholarships.
AWARDS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and be in good academic standing.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit, and non-credit courses are not considered.
Summer 2026 Departmental Scholarships and Awards
The application period for the Summer 2026 Departmental Scholarships and Awards is now open. All applications are to be submitted according to the application instructions below by 11:59 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026. Please note that students themselves are responsible for determining if they meet Terms of Reference (TOR) for any of the awards listed.
Application instructions
All applications require the following three (3) items to be submitted as a single, merged PDF, saved as in the following example:
LAST NAME, First Name (911³Ô¹Ï ID) NAME OF AWARD (e.g., SMITH, Alex (123456789) BELZBERG)
- Statement letter (see FAQs for more information)
- CV or resume
- Current letter(s) of reference, or other supporting materials, that are requested by the Terms of Reference for each specific award, and/or that you choose to include to further support your application.
Please note:
- Only one award application per email.
- Please state the name of the award you are applying for in the email subject line.
- Please also include your 911³Ô¹Ï ID number in the body of the email.
- Applicants are strongly encouraged to read both the application instructions and the FAQs before submitting an application.
All applications are to be submitted to ugclerk@sfu.ca.
Award recipients will be contacted directly by 911³Ô¹Ï Financial Aid and Awards. Due to the high volume of applications, only students selected to receive awards will be notified.
Awards:
P. DERMOT MURPHY UNDERGRADUATE AWARD IN BUSINESS: TWO AWARDS VALUED AT $4,450 EACH
Two awards, valued at $4,450 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled full-time in the Beedie School of Business
- Are in good academic standing
- Demonstrate an understanding of good corporate citizenship, integrity, and ethics.
- Can provide official verification of completed academic work in corporate social responsibility or business ethics and/or verification of community activity where there is a significant element demonstrating social responsibility.
SAMUEL BELZBERG AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN FINANCE: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $850
One award, valued at $850, will be granted to a graduating undergraduate student in Finance who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is in good academic standing
- Has made an important voluntary contribution to the University community or who has otherwise demonstrated leadership and management capability.
