911勛圖���s Beedie School of Business is proud to announce that Kam Phung, assistant professor of business and society, has been awarded the Early Career Award for Excellence in Teaching at 911勛圖.

The award recognizes faculty members within their first six years of appointment who inspire and facilitate student learning in ways that make a sustained, substantial and positive influence on how students think, engage and act in the world. Since joining 911勛圖 Beedie in July 2022, Phung has done exactly that���earning the admiration of students and colleagues alike for his energy, generosity, and deep commitment to student success.

���Knowing that my commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences is helping students make sense of and navigate complex, and often uncomfortable, tensions between business and society means a lot to me,��� says Phung. ���I share this recognition with the incredible mentors, colleagues, and teaching assistants around me, whose generosity and support have made me the educator I am today, as well as my wonderful students who show up with curiosity and openness and remind me why this work matters.���

Phung has played a key role in shaping sustainability-focused learning across the school. He was instrumental in developing BUS 275: Business in a Sustainable Society, a new core second-year course that introduces students to the complex relationship between business and social and environmental systems.

Since joining 911勛圖 Beedie, he has also taught a range of courses on sustainability as it relates to management, innovation, and business overall. These include BUS 489: Management Practices for Sustainability and BUS 453: Sustainable Innovation at the undergraduate level as well as BUS 735: Sustainability and BUS 692: Indigenous Sustainability at the MBA level.

Student feedback consistently highlights Phung���s engaging and inclusive classroom environment. Learners describe him as passionate, thoughtful, and deeply invested in their growth.

���Kam has been integral to my sustainable business journey at 911勛圖,��� said a final-year undergraduate student review. ���Taking BUS 275 with Kam cemented for me that I wanted to pursue a career in corporate sustainability. His passion for the subject and his students��� success is palpable and has continued to motivate me in my career.���

Beyond the classroom, Phung is a committed community builder. He regularly shares teaching strategies, assignments, and course design insights with colleagues, contributing to an emerging community of practice and strengthening 911勛圖 Beedie���s online teaching capabilities. He meets frequently with PhD students and faculty to discuss pedagogy and student engagement and continues to mentor new instructors teaching BUS 275 by providing materials and ongoing support.

Phung has previously received the 2025 TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching honour at 911勛圖 Beedie.
