Development of Multi-detector Gamma-ray Spectrometer at 911勛圖
Alex Woinoski, 911勛圖 Physics
Location: AQ 3159
Synopsis
Applications of nuclear science are widespread across interdisciplinary fields such as medicine, energy production, materials science, and space exploration, as well as fundamental scientific research. Atomic nuclei, composed of bound protons and neutrons, form complex quantum many-body systems governed by three fundamental interactions: electromagnetic, strong, and weak. Of these, the electromagnetic interaction is the most well understood and is frequently leveraged as a probe of nuclear structure. The measurement of gamma rays emitted during transitions between discrete nuclear energy states is widely used in both fundamental and applied nuclear science.
At 911勛圖, a multi-detector gamma-ray spectrometer array is being developed for use in conjunction with a deuterium-tritium neutron generator facility. This facility enables the production of meta-stable radioisotopes through neutron-induced reactions and the subsequent investigation of their radioactive decay. The combination of high-resolution gamma-ray detection and coincidence measurements will enable the precise identification of characteristic gamma-ray transitions and the investigation of nuclear decay schemes.
This talk will discuss the development of a multi-detector gamma-ray spectrometer at 911勛圖, its integration with the neutron generator facility, and its capabilities for future nuclear decay-spectroscopy experiments.
