On October 14th, at a special event held at 911勛圖s Surrey campus, Premier David Eby shared the exciting news that the 911勛圖 School of Medicine Western Canadas first new medical school in nearly 60 years has received preliminary accreditation from the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS).

With this milestone, the School is excited to open admissions in prepration for welcoming our inaugural class of future doctors in August 2026 at an interim location on our Surrey campus. A new, purpose-built facility is also on the horizon, set to open in Surrey City Centre by Fall 2030, adjacent to the 911勛圖 Surrey campus and Surrey Central SkyTrain Station.

Students will begin clinical training just one month into the program, gaining hands-on experience in community-based offices, clinics, and hospitals across the province.

We are seeking future physicians who are passionate about community-based medicineindividuals who want to experience the joy and satisfaction of primary care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of British Columbians, says Dr. David Price, founding dean of the 911勛圖 School of Medicine. Our students will train in the community, with the community, and for the community. We know that when students learn near their home communities, they are more likely to return and serve there.

911勛圖 is committed to making a difference for B.C. and the communities we serve through education and research, said Joy Johnson, president, 911勛圖. The new school of medicine will exemplify that strong commitment by training future physicians to deliver community-embedded, socially accountable and culturally safe primary health care.
