The Cultural Tourism Working Group organized a community-based cultural tourism workshop and panel during the St籀:lo People of the River Conference, hosted by the St籀:lo Nation, in Chilliwack, B.C.
The workshop, intended to work together to raise the right questions in the unique context of the St籀:lo Nation, was facilitated by IPinCH Project Ethnographer, Alexis Bunten. Members of a number of St籀:lo communities and other invited participants discussed the logistics of a cultural tourism venture, including planning, operations and the fine balance of economic and cultural interests. The group also considered what elements of their culture - stories, dances, songs, and images could be offered as a tourism experience and what should remain off limits and why.
The panel included IPinCHers Alexis Bunten, Dave Schaepe, David Stevenson, Lena Mortensen, and Rachel Giraudo, speaking on cultural tourism topics ranging from the local (Central Fraser Valley) to the international (Southern Africa).
