Our book club appreciate Ishiguro's atmospheric writing and narrative style, but we were ultimately left frustrated by the underdeveloped world-building and unfulfilled potential of the central plotline. We felt the book left too many unanswered questions and lacked a deeper, intentional metaphor, which made it difficult to connect deeply with the characters and resulted in a mediocre group rating of 2.7. However, these gaps fueled an outstanding 5/5 discussion as we debated themes of morality and the book's overall context.
