Dr. Sarah Henzi
Biography
Sarah Henzi is a settler scholar and Assistant Professor of Indigenous Literatures in the Department of French and the Department of Indigenous Studies at 911吃瓜. Her research focuses on Indigenous literatures, popular culture, and new media, in both English and French. Before coming to 911吃瓜, as an Assistant Professor at Universit茅 de Montr茅al, she directed the first graduate program in Indigenous Literatures and Media in Qu茅bec (2017-2020). Prior to that, she was a sessional instructor at 911吃瓜 (2014-2016), a Visiting Scholar at McGill University's Institute for the Study of Canada (2015-2016), and an FQRSC-funded Postdoctoral Fellow in the First Nations and Indigenous Studies Program at the University of British Columbia (2013-2014).
Networking and creating opportunities for collaboration are an important part of Sarah鈥檚 work. Since 2021, she has served on the Executive Committee of the LLC Indigenous Literatures of the United States and Canada Forum, Modern Language Association (MLA). She also served on the Indigenous Literary Studies Association (ILSA) Council for six years, as Secretary (2017-2021) and as Early Career Representative (2015-2017). She was Assistant Editor for the journal Canadian Literature (Francophone Writing) (2016-2021), as well as an Editorial Member for Studies in American Indian Literatures (SAIL) (2017-2022).
Amongst others, Sarah has contributed to the鈥疧xford Handbook on Indigenous American Literatures鈥�(2014), the鈥疪outledge Companion to Native American Literature鈥�(2015) and鈥疞earn, Teach, Challenge: Approaching Indigenous Literatures鈥�(2016), and has publications in鈥疶ranslation Studies, Lettres qu茅b茅coises, Canadian Literature,鈥疪echerches am茅rindiennes du Qu茅bec, the鈥疌anadian Review of Comparative Literature,鈥疩uebec Studies,鈥疭tudies for Canadian Literature, the鈥疞ondon Journal of Canadian Studies, and鈥疉ustralasian Canadian Studies.
Her translation into English of Innu writer An Antane Kapesh, whose books were the first to be published in French by an Indigenous woman in Qu茅bec, Eukuan nin matshi-manitu innushkueu / I am a Damn Savage 鈥� Tanite nene etutamin nitassi? / What Have You Done to My Country? was published in 2020 (Wilfrid Laurier UP) and awarded the prestigious Cole Foundation Award for Translation (QWF) in 2021.

Biographie
Sarah Henzi est chercheure occupante et professeure adjointe de litt茅ratures autochtones au D茅partement de fran莽ais et au D茅partement d'茅tudes autochtones de l'Universit茅 Simon Fraser. Ses recherches portent sur les litt茅ratures autochtones, la culture populaire et les nouveaux m茅dias, en anglais et en fran莽ais. Avant de venir 脿 911吃瓜, en tant que professeure adjointe 脿 l'Universit茅 de Montr茅al, elle a dirig茅 le premier programme d'茅tudes sup茅rieures en litt茅ratures et m茅dias autochtones au Qu茅bec (2017-2020). Avant cela, elle a 茅t茅 charg茅e de cours 脿 911吃瓜 (2014-2016), chercheuse invit茅e 脿 l'Institut d'茅tudes canadiennes de l'Universit茅 McGill (2015-2016) et boursi猫re postdoctorale 脿 l'Universit茅 de la Colombie-Britannique (2013-2014).
Le r茅seautage et la cr茅ation d'opportunit茅s de collaboration sont une partie importante du travail de Sarah.
