Biography

As Director, Research for FHS, Cecilia provides strategic planning and expertise to enhance FHS’ research productivity, impact and overall visibility. She provides support to faculty members throughout the research funding and award application process and offers comprehensive research services, opportunities and resources for faculty and students. She leads the development of research education and research mentoring programs tailored to both faculty and graduate students and advises on knowledge mobilization initiatives and projects. Working in close collaboration with the Dean, Director Admin, and Associate Dean of Research, Cecilia contributes to formulating and executing the Faculty's research strategy and supports the Faculty’s commitment to research excellence. Cecilia also supports FHS’ long term efforts in fostering research collaborations and partnerships at the local, national, and international levels.

Cecilia Kalaw has thirty years of experience in grant writing and project development in non-profit, governmental, and academic settings. She was a grants officer for the BC government and a grant writer for various non-profit agencies. From 2000-2006, she was a health researcher for the UBC Department of Health Care and Epidemiology and the School of Nursing. She has expertise in community-based research, qualitative methods, gender analyses and tobacco research and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Cecilia has a Master of Arts in Education from 911³Ô¹Ï. She has conducted policy research and written on public education, multiculturalism, human rights, and immigrant settlement and integration.
