Founded by Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) graduates Edward Chiang, Sumreen Rattan, Gurmesh Sidhu and Gabriel Soares, Moment Energy officially opened Megafactory 1 on June 23, 2026.

The opening comes at a time when electricity demand continues to grow, while millions of EV batteries are expected to retire in the coming years. Through second-life battery repurposing, Moment Energy transforms retired batteries into scalable energy storage systems that can help support critical infrastructure, including data centres, hospitals and microgrids.

"The launch of our Megafactory highlights the next chapter of our journey," says Sumreen Rattan, Co-Founder and COO of Moment Energy. "We're entering an era of producing certified battery energy storage system using repurposed batteries at an unprecedented scale."

For Ratten and the Moment Energy team, the facility represents an important step toward expanding scecond-life EV battery repurposing, supporting the growing energy needs and future power infrastructure.
