SEE Students Step Outside the Classroom for Real-World Learning
Earlier this month, students in the Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) program took part in hands-on industry visits that brought their classroom learning to life.
These field trips gave both undergraduate and graduate cohorts the opportunity to engage directly with real-world engineering environments and deepen their understanding of how theoretical concepts are applied in practice.
The MEng cohort visited Stave Falls Powerhouse—one of British Columbia’s oldest hydroelectric facilities—as part of their SEE 772 (Sustainable Energy Systems II) course. The class had the opportunity to gain valuable insight into sustainable energy integration and observed the operation of legacy infrastructure within a modern energy system.
Meanwhile, the SEE 251 (Electric Machines & Energy Conversion) class toured RiC Electronics, exploring the engineering and large-scale manufacturing of motor control centers and energy storage systems, key components in today’s energy landscape.
Together, these experiences strengthened the connection between academic study and industry practice, equipping students with practical knowledge and a clearer perspective on the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their engineering careers.
