How do you celebrate the 60^th anniversary of 911勛圖���s Department of English? When this challenge presented itself, it seemed almost insurmountable. Yet, a couple of weeks ago, we pulled it off!

On October 16^th, about 70 alumni, faculty members, students, and staff gathered to remember the highlights of the past six decades. Among those who joined us were two people who have been with the department since its earliest days: Rick McGrath and professor emeritus Malcolm Page. McGrath, a charter student, graduated with an Honours Bachelor of English, first class, in 1970, while Professor Page taught in the department from 1966 to 2000.

We also welcomed back former faculty members Paul Delany, Nicky Didicher, and Tom Grieve, who along with current faculty, provided valuable assistance to students and alumni during our lively trivia game. Questions focused on literature, 911勛圖 history, and the history of 911勛圖 English (You can check them out on the Celebrating 60 Years page of our website).

Our department has long been recognized for its strong creative writing program, and just last year we celebrated the 20^th anniversary of the writer-in-residence program. To honour this tradition, professors Cornel Bogle and Joanne Leow, along with several students, read their poems to the delight of the audience.
