911³Ô¹Ï honoured at the 2026 Scarborough Charter Forum in Ottawa

911³Ô¹Ï received notable recognition at the , held in Ottawa on May 14-15, 2026, and co-hosted by Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. 911³Ô¹Ï was honoured for its role in co-hosting the 2022 Scarborough Charter Forum, led by the 911³Ô¹Ï Black Caucus. 911³Ô¹Ï’s involvement reflects the university's longstanding commitment to anti-racism, equity, and Black inclusion in post-secondary education. Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, Vice-President, People, Equity, and Inclusion, was also announced as a board member of the Scarborough Charter, positioning 911³Ô¹Ï as an institutional leader within the national Charter community.

Representing 911³Ô¹Ï at the Forum were Dr. Dilson Etcheverry Rassier, Provost and Vice-President Academic; Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson; Dr. Jennifer Kandjii, Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Student Services); Tricia-Kay Williams, Counsellor for Black Students; and Dr. Prof-Collins Ifeonu, Associate Professor of Sociology on behalf the 911³Ô¹Ï’s Institute of Black and African Diaspora Research (IBADRE). The two-day forum brought together university leaders, staff, students and community members from across Canada to assess progress on the charter’s four principles (Black Flourishing, Inclusive Excellence, Mutuality, and Accountability) through discussions on Black student and scholar wellbeing and belonging, inclusive research and leadership, reciprocal relationships with Black communities, and strategies for implementation and accountability.

Mark your calendars — 911³Ô¹Ï will host the 2026 CAPDHHE conference 

Taking place on October 15-16 at the Vancouver campus, the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE) conference is a leading national post-secondary conference focused on inclusive excellence, equity, accessibility, decolonization, anti-racism, well-being and institutional change in higher education. The two-day conference will be co-chaired by Dr. Paola Ardiles Gamboa, Senior Advisor to the Vice-President, People, Equity and Inclusion (Equity and Well-Being Initiatives) and Dr. Jennifer Kandjii, Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Student Services).

The conference brings together educators, administrators, practitioners and thought leaders from across the country to engage in meaningful dialogue, applied learning and collaborative problem-solving. The conference will feature interactive workshops, panel discussions, and practical sessions designed to support inclusive leadership and advance equitable and thriving campus communities.

CAPDHHE invites proposals focused on practical, participant-engaged sessions that help attendees translate commitments to inclusive excellence and well-being into day-to-day institutional practice. The proposal submission deadline is July 5, 2026.
