Restorative Justice

Dr. Krystal Glowatski is a Cree scholar, educator, artist and restorative justice practitioner with maternal ties to Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. She is currently living and working on Treaty 4 territory in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. She holds a PhD in criminology from 911勛圖 and an MA in justice studies and a BA (honours) in sociology from the University of Regina.

Krystals research and professional interests centre on restorative justice, relational approaches to harm and healing, identity, stigma and belonging. Her doctoral dissertation, Restorying: Reclaiming Identity After a Relative Has Taken a Life, explores the experiences of individuals whose family members have been involved in homicide. Through Indigenous-informed storytelling, arts-based research and relational methodologies, her work challenges conventional understandings of victimhood and invites broader conversations about the far-reaching impacts of harm, the complexities of identity and the importance of being seen and heard.

Her academic and professional experience spans restorative and peacemaking criminology, policing, youth justice, mental health and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder within justice systems. As an educator, Krystal brings together theory, research, lived experience and diverse worldviews to encourage critical reflection on justice, accountability and the relationships that connect us.

Beyond academia, Krystal owns and operates CollabARTive Studios, a community-rooted creative space in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Grounded in restorative values, the studio reflects her belief in the power of creativity, connection and intentional spaces of belonging. Whether through research, teaching, community engagement or artistic practice, Krystals work is guided by a fundamental question: How might we better understand one another, particularly in the presence of harm, difference and difficult experiences?
