Student honoured with Top 25 Under 25 award
Congratulations to Community Capacity Building program graduate Jshandeep Jassal, one of the recipients of the Surrey Board of Trades Top 25 Under 25 awards. The awards recognize people under 25 who work in Surrey or contribute to a Surrey business/community-related project.
A co-director at Solid State Community Industries, an organization that supports the economic mobility of racialized migrant youth, Jassal was honoured for her leadership work at Surrey-based non-profits. While completing the Community Capacity Building Certificate, she launched the South Asian Healing Network, a peer support network for young people in the South Asian community.
Jassal also co-founded two other organizations: GenConnect, a service that facilitates connection between seniors and youth, and Let Her Talk, an initiative that offers peers support and resources for racialized women and girls.
I felt humbled and some sense of relief that Im on the right track with the work Im doing, she says of receiving the award.
Jassal adds its inspired her to keep making a difference: Working in community is almost always emotionally difficult. Receiving recognition from the community made me feel energized to continue what I am doing!
She was celebrated for her contributions alongside eight fellow 911勛圖 students and alumni at the Surrey Board of Trades awards ceremony on April 20. Read the full article on the 911勛圖 Surrey website for more information about Jassal and the other deserving recipients.
