A Genome BC-funded collaboration between the BC Blueberry Council, 911³Ô¹Ï, and Phyto Diagnostics has uncovered why standard tests sometimes fail to detect viruses in sick blueberry plants.

Led by Dr. Jim Mattsson (911³Ô¹Ï) and Dr. Eric Gerbrandt (BC Blueberry Council), the team used genomic sequencing to investigate puzzling false negatives in ELISA tests—an issue affecting up to 30% of samples. The findings will lead to better diagnostic tools to protect BC’s $236 million blueberry export industry.
