Sessional - BISC 204 - Ecology - 1267 - Burnaby Campus

The following Sessional appointment is expected to be available in the Department of Biological Sciences during the FALL SEMESTER (September 2 to December 24, 2026).

BISC 204 ECOLOGY - LECTURER
SALARY  $7,718 (inclusive of 4% vacation pay)
LECTURES 3h/week (T 2:30-4:20, R 2:30-3:20)

RESERVE SESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR POSITION: No
Article XIV E.3.a of the TSSU-911勛圖 Collective Agreement allows for up to 25% of appointments within a given department to be reserved for graduate students or postdoctoral fellows. While priority will be given to Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows in awarding this RESERVED position, all Sessional Instructors are encouraged to apply. In the event it is not filled by a Grad or Postdoc, it will be filled by another qualified applicant in accordance with Article XIV E of the Collective Agreement.

Course Description: Biology 204 (Introduction to Ecology) emphasizes understanding species interactions in biological communities and the relationships between communities and the environment. 

The instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering lectures and exams, meeting and communicating with students, overseeing assignments, and grading exams and assignments with the assistance of Teaching Assistant(s). In addition, the instructor supervises and trains Teaching Assistants.

Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in biological sciences or related discipline with a broad training in ecology. Expertise in one or more ecology sub-disciplines (e.g., behavioral ecology; population dynamics; community ecology; observational, experimental and comparative approaches to the study of species interactions in biological communities and the relationships between communities and the environment). The successful candidate must also have recent relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Recommended Qualifications: A PhD in biological sciences or related discipline. Experience with problem-based learning and instruction in reading and critiquing scientific papers. The preferred candidate would have a minimum of 4 months' teaching experience as the principal instructor of a similar course or courses.
