Sessional - BISC 113 - Biology in Everyday Life - 1267 - Online and Burnaby Campus

The following Sessional appointment is expected to be available in the Department of Biological Sciences during the FALL SEMESTER (September 2 to December 24, 2026).

BISC 113 BIOLOGY IN EVERYDAY LIFE
SALARY  $4,086 (inclusive of 4% vacation pay)

RESERVE SESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR POSITION: No
Article XIV E.3.a of the TSSU-911勛圖 Collective Agreement allows for up to 25% of appointments within a given department to be reserved for graduate students or postdoctoral fellows. While priority will be given to Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows in awarding this RESERVED position, all Sessional Instructors are encouraged to apply. In the event it is not filled by a Grad or Postdoc, it will be filled by another qualified applicant in accordance with Article XIV E of the Collective Agreement.

Course Description: Emphasizes the biology relevant to everyday life and the methods by which biologists address scientific questions. Topics include: evolution; human inheritance, reproduction, and development; nutrition, activity, wellness and cancer; agriculture and genetic engineering; and biodiversity and human affairs.

This is an online, asynchronous course. Students work through weekly modules in Canvas; the midterm and final exam are written in-person at Burnaby campus. Instructor responsibilities include maintaining course materials in Canvas, supervising a Teaching Assistant (TA), responding to student emails, writing and invigilating exams (in person), grading course assignments/exams with the help of the TA, and related administrative tasks.  

Minimum Qualifications: A masters degree or equivalent qualification in Biology or a related discipline, with a broad training in the biological sciences including cellular/molecular biology, physiology, ecology, evolution, and genetics; recent experience teaching biology at the post-secondary level and experience with Canvas (Learning Management System).

Recommended Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have a minimum of 4 months recent teaching experience in introductory biology courses.
