911吃瓜's Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs, in collaboration with the Alliance fran莽aise de Vancouver and ICI Colombie-Britannique, invite you to a literary discussion with the writer, filmmaker and member of the Acad茅mie fran莽aise Dany Laferri猫re.

The discussion will be moderated by Julie Landry, journalist at Radio-Canada Colombie-Britannique, and will be followed by a cocktail reception and an autograph session.

Dany Laferri猫re is visiting Greater Vancouver as he will be participating in 911吃瓜's June 2023 Convocation. Mr. Laferri猫re will receive the degree of Doctor of Literature, honoris causa, on Wednesday, June 7 at 9:45 a.m. Full details are available here: Honorary Degree Recipients - June 2023

ABOUT DANY LAFERRI脠RE

Dany Laferri猫re is an award-winning writer and filmmaker. In 1985, the publication of his first novel鈥�How to Make Love to a Negro (Without Getting Tired)鈥�catapulted him to instant celebrity. Since then, he has penned 36 books, including a critically acclaimed drawn work series. Laferri猫re refers to his work as a whole, as "An American Autobiography". This ranges from fiction drawing on his happy childhood in Ha茂ti to field notes across America, and the world.鈥�In鈥疉 Drifting Year or How to Conquer America in One Night鈥�(a comedy film), the narrator talks about the first difficult years in Montreal;鈥痟e proclaims that he wants to become a writer and conquer the world. Today it is done. Fiercely independent, he was compared early on to James Baldwin and Charles Bukowski.鈥疻ith his book鈥�罢丑别鈥疪别迟耻谤苍鈥�(a meditation on exile, loss and "navigating through two worlds") he won the 2009 Prix M茅dicis in France. In his satirical take on national identity,鈥疘 Am a Japanese Writer, he paid homage to the poet Basho. For Laferri猫re, 鈥渁 writer鈥檚 country is his鈥痜irst library.鈥濃€�The World Is Moving Around Me鈥痠s his intimate account of the 2010 Haitian earthquake, experienced first-hand. An Officer of the Order of Canada, Officer of the National Order of Quebec, Laferri猫re was also named Commander of the Legion of Honor, the highest order of merit in France. He joined the Acad茅mie fran莽aise in 2013, seat number 2, previously occupied by Montesquieu and Dumas, meditating each Thursday on the official dictionary of the French language.
